My opinions on the presentations and the group work

At the beginning of the class each of us were assigned a group. At first, I was a little skeptical about it because I did not think that I could work out well. But my thoughts were so wrong because my group did an amazing job, not only mine but the all the others too. There was great leadership, they were compromised and helpful, all of them without an exception.

My group had a fascinating theme, it was about Communication Groups. This topic talks about the different families and their dynamics. Also, the family communication patterns theory, nature and types of groups. One of them is the virtual groups, like ours, were people meet online, work as a team and support each other. That thinking about it is helpful now do to COVID. On the next slides of the presentation it talks about service groups, their roles, responsibilities and how they function. I learned that there are two kind of work groups, the heterogeneous group and the homogeneous group. The heterogeneous group being the more complex ones, because these ones share diverse information between them, while homogeneous group are more likely to share the same information. The healthy groups were part of our project too, and what it makes them. Some example of these could be an orchestra, the Miami Heats or even the Star Wars film crew. This groups have ethical goals, they are honest, upright, and honorable and more. They also are interdependent, they only rely on each other’s skills to reach a goal, if one person did all the work or they all did the same task then the group is not interdependent. Other groups were conflict groups, culture, and virtual.

The first group of the class presented about Intercultural communication. They explained the meaning of culture and values, and how the cultural shock is something real on the society of now days. This consists of a psychological discomfort we feel when engaging in a new culture. The last group theme was about Groups leadership and problem solving. The talked about how they are constituted by maintenance roles, procedural roles. They covered some shared leadership responsibilities to follow when working united. Some of these are: be committed to the group goal, keep discussions on track, complete individual assignments on time, encourage input from all the members and manage among the members.

Overall, I think all the group member of my class did an amazing job, and each of them presented on a very unique way. I felt that they knew their content by heart. Their interaction while presenting was great and to be honest I really enjoyed. I personally learn a lot about all of the presentations, even more because they were very well presented. But what I liked the most about our project was working together with my classmates, we turn out to be a good team and it made me change my mind on work groups.
