Reflections

Hi everyone! I’m so happy and excited to be a part of this class. It was not an easy decision to return to university after 30 years. I’m finding it rewarding thanks to professors and students as such in this class. Professor Sinkoff has done a great job of engaging us in class, through the textbook and amongst each other. This class project was a reflection of that effort.  She allowed certain individuals to ascertain leadership roles, of their own will and had them divide us into 3 groups. Once the groups were finalized we begun the team work. The project consisted of each team member putting a power point together regarding the content  assigned. The team leaders were communicative, organized, and helpful. It was a great start to a class I was apprehensive about taking. The presentations took place over three class periods allowing each student to speak and explain their power points about the topics assigned. I enjoyed listening while watching the slides my classmate...

we were all assigned to present one of the first three chapter of the course. group 2 presented chapter 9, the chapter about different types of groups. the group did an excellent job of explaining the chapter in a way that is understandable for everyone in the class. Group 1 also did an excellent job, providing clear information as well as videos and photos for a better understanding. Group 3 had some difficulty in presentation and display, but overall did a good job handling those difficulties by acting professional in the time of "panic". Every presentation came with their difficulties though, not just group 3. Every group was respectful towards their peers and handled any situation in a professional and calm manner. All the participants in each group also had their parts evenly split between each group, so no one looked like they did more work than the other. Everything was fairly spread out and flowed effortlessly from student to student in each group. Overall, ...

Group Presentation Reflection

When asked to work in a group setting, I normally like to take the lead. Having been in the military upon other things, it has just become second nature. This year however, one of the things that I am working on is watching and taking examples on how others lead. It is such a hard thing for me to do, but being that I have more on my plate than I can chew on, I knew that it was better for my mental and emotional health to step back and be a participant and share my experiences than being the one who takes the charge. Our group presentations had many different topics that lead to one main topic, group dynamics. We were able to experience first hand a couple of these groups, the main one being virtual meetings. I have to admit, I have never done a group project in an online setting, let alone not being able to meet my group mates in person. I thought this would be harder than it actually was.  While communication is key in every day life, it was even more important in this proje...

Our Group had a very interesting topics we talked about  communicating in groups , like Group Communication, family groups, social groups , support groups and interest groups, virtual groups and also healthy groups .I really enjoyed working with my group because we all bond really well and we always help each other and  our group leader Jess is such a great leader she is always there we need help. And i really like our presentation. We all did an amazing job , and we each presented our slides. My slide was about healthy groups  which are a group formed around  a constructive purpose and characterized by ethical goals,  interdependence, cohesiveness, productive norms, accountability and synergy. i also think that  the other groups presented really great too and that everyone did an amazing job , i liked how we all added youtube videos and pictures as well as we each explain our slides and talk about the video we added in the slide, and i like...

February 3rd, 2021                                                                                     Daniela Leon                                                My opinions on the presentations and the group work At the beginning of the class each of us were assigned a group. At first, I was a little skeptical about it because I did not think that I could work out well. But my thoughts were so wrong because my group did an amazing job, not only mine but the all the others too. There was great leadership, they were compromised and helpful, all of them wit...

Presentation reflection      Every group did an amazing job in presenting their chapters and in executing everything. Group one did their presentation  on Intercultural Communications. This topic dealt with culture, beliefs, and peoples attitudes towards other cultures. this is a very relevant topic today and its important to know how to respect and understand peoples race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and so on and to not judge and be kind. Group one did an amazing job in presenting this topic; they knew their material well and spoke from the heart rather then simply rephrasing what the book already told us. Their organization and perfect use of examples really hit it out of the park and covered every bit of the chapter beautifully. Overall group one was my favorite presentation and did a 10/10 job.     The next group was my group: group 2. We did our presentation on communication and how it differs and affects different groups. The group took turns...

Group 2 Reflection In our presentation we talk about how to communicate in groups, the nature and types of groups, characteristics of healthy groups, stages of group development, and conflict in groups; Pseudo-Conflict, Issue-Related Group Conflict, Personality-Related Group Conflict, Culture and Conflict, and Virtual groups and Conflict. Our group leader Jess started the presentation by talking about the definition of group and what a group communication is. I think we all did a good job presenting, everything was always organized, and we were all responsible with what was assigned. I like being part of group 2 because there is good communication and we understand each other. My favorite presentation was group 1, they provided good information and they were organized during the presentation. Their topic was about Intercultural Communication, a topic that is very influential because it deals with culture, which is a system of sharing beliefs, attitudes, and norms that guides what ...

Group  2 reflection       Our group had an interesting topic that has become important in this day in age. It was surprisingly interesting and to be able to work and bounce ideas off of each other; it was refreshing to have something close to a class dynamic. The way the group was ran was like a well oiled machine, maybe I am being bias. The way that our group leader, Jess, was delegating tasks was impressive to say the least. The fact the she was able to step up to the plate and knock it out of the park, my hats comes off for her. Honestly, all of the members did a great job presenting, it felt like they knew what they were going to talk about by heart. Group 2 presentation was about communication in groups, the first three slides were about family groups and how some family dynamic like a nuclear 2 parent house hold. The family dynamic has a lot interesting little parts, like family communication theory. The second three slide were about nature and soci...
