Group 2 Presentation Reflection

In our speech class we spoke about how COVID 19 has affected family dynamics, education and mental health. We discussed about the differences pre-COVID and the impact it has now made to society. One of the biggest impacts was on college students and how their mental health was greatly affected during these times. Over 185 countries and resulted in the closure of over 90 percent of all schools, colleges and universities impacting close to 1.38 billion students. This was was a very informative and important topic because it is an issue that impacted us and continues to impact us day by day, especially students who are already overwhelmed in being on virtual classes because it affects the way these students learn and has no comparison with face-to-face classes, this year has been one of the hardest years for me and my family because of all the changes we had on top of the pandemic. The impact it has also made to teachers to transfer and find new ways to ensure their students are progressing during this challenging time. We spoke about the financial hardships and the added stress to the daily lives of those who have to quarantine multiple times due to children being sent home from school. This had affected family incomes and also affects the day to day for parents as well as the mental health for children who have to constantly change from in person to online. We also were able to discuss how although it has been a negative impact we have been able to evolve to a much more technologically advanced education system. I think our group did an amazing job presenting, Jess our group leader has been the rock through this semester and we wouldn't have been able to do this if it wouldn't have been for her. Some of us actually had fall backs during this presentation because of COVID but we pulled together as a group and helped each other out. I was very content with out presentation and how well we performed. The other groups had very well put together presentations discussing racism and health care background during the pandemic. The whole group worked pretty well in finding relevant and valid information for their slides. If I could change something it would be the organization and improper use of the videos. Our videos should be an aid and not a crutch to the presentation.

I am very glad to have met the students in this class, because it has helped me push forward even during the hardest times. I also feel like during these times we need to stick together. I also feel as if the faculty has been more than understanding and we have all learned to be more patient and understanding regarding. It was also very surprising and enlightening to see how the community came together as one to ensure that we all would excel. I haven’t seen that type of help and compassion since I was in the military.
